Construction Craft Laborers Local #689
The construction craft laborer is a multi-faceted worker who
works in building construction, highway and heavy construction,
transportation pipeline construction, demolition and environmental
remediation. In construction and demolition, the laborers are the
first person on a project and the last to leave the completed
project. Laborers acquire a broad based of construction knowledge as
they work hand-in-hand with other building trades. In environmental
remediation shipbuilding, the laborers respond to abatement needs to keep our environment
healthy and safe.
The construction craft laborer apprenticeship program is a 4000-hour
program. The related training includes basic safety training and
construction orientation programs for all apprentices. The
construction craft laborer apprentice program also offers three electives to
the apprentice to complete his program. The electives are building
construction, highway and heavy construction, and environmental remediation.
How do I prepare for the trade?
The following will be helpful:
- Courses in math and science
- Develop reasoning and problem solving skills
- Good reading ability
- Develop a good work ethic
How do I qualify?
The following are necessary:
- At least 18 years of age
- High school diploma /GED desired
- In good physical condition
